Deshotels received her B.A. in sociology from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette, her M.A. in sociology from Middle Tennessee State University, and her Ph.D. in sociology from Florida State University in 2004. She is now Professor of Sociology and Department Head of Sociology and Political Science at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. Her areas of interest in teaching, research, and service, are broad but generally fall under the umbrella of Theory, Gender, and Deviance. She is the co-author (w/Craig J. Forsyth) of Gendered Power Dynamics and Exotic Dance: A Multi-level Analysis (Taylor and Francis 2022), and co-author (w/Craig J. Forsyth and Erin Rider) of Crime and Deviance, Understanding Problems and Constructing Solutions.
