April Smith Cody Porter a School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth, UKb School of Social Sciences, College of Health, Science and Society, University of the West of England (UWE-Bristol), Bristol, UKDr April Smith is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology and Psychology at the University of Portsmouth’s School of Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies. Her research focuses on issues related to penology and prisons, women in prison, and implicit bias. She completed her PhD at a female prison in England and Wales, where she studied the effects of peer mentoring on incarcerated women.Cody Porter holds a BSc in Psychology and an MSc in Forensic Psychology, with research focused on imitation, lie detection, and information elicitation. Her PhD developed tools to enhance these areas. With experience in NHS forensic hospitals, she supported offenders with complex mental health disorders. Her current research investigates employability barriers for sexual offenders and mental health challenges in collaboration with Priory Healthcare. She also has extensive teaching experience in Psychology and Criminology at the University of Portsmouth and UWE Bristol.
