William Calathes Criminal Justice Department, New Jersey City University, Jersey City, NJ, USADr. William Calathes is a Professor of Criminal Justice at New Jersey City University, where he has taught since 1987. His professional experience includes administering prison education programs, serving on halfway house boards, and enforcing consent decrees at Rikers Island. He has also held a United Nations appointment in Colombia and contributed to voting rights litigation in Kenya. A longtime leader in the American Federation of Teachers, Dr. Calathes’s scholarship addresses white-collar crime, including the LIBOR banking scandal and racial capitalism, as well as issues of police accountability and prison abolition. He holds a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice and a J.D. from the City University of New York.
