The deviant leisure research group is a multi-disciplinary network of academics, researchers and students exploring the boundaries of leisure and deviance. The group is informed through critical engagement with a range of perspectives intersecting with the sociological interpretations of crime and deviance.

Members are drawn from a variety of academic backgrounds, which to date include:

  • Leisure and Tourism
  • Computer Science

The overarching theme of deviant leisure unites a wide range of research areas, including:

  • Media
  • Parkour/free running
  • Sport
  • Dark tourism
  • Sex work
  • Internet/social media

While the Deviant Leisure network provides a forum through which to share research and stimulate discussion, longer term aims include:

  • Themed conferences and workshops
  • Edited collections
  • Collaborative research
