Cybersecurity Expert Perspectives on Data Thieves’ Actions in Digital Environments: Potential Refinements for Routine Activity Theory
Renushka Madarie Marleen Weulen Kranenbarg Christianne de Poot a VU University Amsterdam, Amsterdam, The Netherlandsb Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Amsterdam, The Netherlandsc Police Academy of The Netherlands, Apeldoorn, The NetherlandsRenushka Madarie is a researcher at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) and the VU University Amsterdam. Her research focuses on cybercriminal decision-making. She currently leads a postdoc project on advancing the methodology of crime script analysis for cybercriminal phenomena for which she received a grant from The Police Academy in The Netherlands. This project builds on her PhD project, which focused on the theft of and trade in stolen data. Renushka has a background in psychology and criminology and is experienced in both quantitative as well as qualitative research methods.Dr. Marleen Weulen Kranenbarg is assistant professor in criminology at the Department of Criminology of the VU University Amsterdam. Her research focuses mainly on four themes around cybercrime offending and prevention: 1. differences with traditional crime 2. the role of online and offline peers 3. the role of (IT) education and 4. Ethical hacking and positive use of IT skills. For this last research line she received a prestigious personal VENI grant from NWO (Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research).Prof. dr. Christianne de Poot holds a professorship in Forensic Science at the AUAS and the Police Academy, and a professorship in Criminalistics at the VU University Amsterdam. Her primary research interests include the use of psychological theories and new technologies to improve police investigations, as well as examining the implications of new crime phenomena, such as cybercrime, organized crime and terrorism, for law and order. Christianne is a linguist and psychologist. She enjoys working in multidisciplinary research teams and conducting interdisciplinary research. She has extensive experience in both fundamental and policy-oriented research.
